Do you have a training plan?
Or are you doing random things?
In my career as a personal trainer I've met many people who had a vision and dream outcome.
Whether it was to lose some weight, build muscle, be pain free, or just feel better.
Surprisingly often, when I asked "what's your training plan?", the answer was "I don't have one", or something vague.
I found about one in ten people actually had a plan that they stick to.
That's a common tactic for personal trainers to sell their services.
If you don't have a plan, you're doing random things.
Showing up on random days, doing random exercises, lifting random weights.
Random wont get you closer to your goals.
That's one of the reasons why so many people never reach their fitness goals.
When you have a training plan that's well thought out with the purpose of reaching your goals, you're much more likely to actually reach them.
Then you also need to stick to it for a while, collect data, make sure you're progressively overloading...
But it all starts with having a plan.
Fitness is like anything else if you want results.
Define clear goals and make a realistic plan you can stick to.
Often people are very motivated at the start.
They may have not been training at all for a long time, but suddenly they want to train six times a week.
That's one of the most common errors I see as a trainer.
Going from zero to six times a week is not sustainable, and almost no-one can make that kind of a change for the long term.
Besides, that's thinking of fitness as a short term project, which it isn't.
Fitness is for life.
If you want to make your own plan, use the SMART framework to define your goals.
Pick exercises that stimulate what you want to achieve.
Refer to the principles of strength and conditioning HERE to make sure you're progressively overloading, that your training is individualized to your needs, and that your training is specific.
